Benevolence Fund
BIF seeks to obey the second great commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself”, (Matt 22:38). We recognize that in Azerbaijan there are many in real need, and we have a responsibility to do good to all, especially those in the fellowship.

We remember the words of Jesus just before he died, when he commanded his followers to feed the hungry, give drink to those who are thirsty, welcome the stranger, look after the sick and visit those in prison.

However, we must also remember Paul’s warnings to the early church about providing assistance:
“For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: ‘If a man will not work, he shall not eat.’” (2Thess 3:10),
“He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.” (Eph 4:28)

To address these concerns, the BIF Elder Board has set up a Benevolence Fund. The Fund is open to all in need but priority will be given to regular participants of BIF.

Whenever there is a fifth Sunday in the month, we will collect an additional offering which will be dedicated to the Benevolence Fund.

To administer the Fund the Elder Board have appointed a Benevolent Fund Working Group. The members of the Working Group are Sharon Ridenour, Lee Merrick, Roelie Van der Spuy, Boye Majekodummi and Efe Onovwoma.

In future, all requests for individual financial support must go via the Working Group. Anyone in need should complete an Application Form Click here to download a copy, hand it in to any member of the Working Group who will meet with them (in confidence) to discuss their needs.

Now that the Fund has been set up it will not be acceptable to ask other individuals within BIF for financial support. If you are approached by anyone, please direct them to a member of the Working Group.

If there are any questions, please talk to a member of the Working Group or one of the Elders.
